About

Josu Mämmi is a Finland-based composer, DJ, sound designer, educator, and musician. He has worked as a freelance artist for most of his life and graduated with a Master of Music from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. His eclectic output blends and distills material from diverse sources, resulting in often surprising and colorful textures. Josu’s multifaceted work experience in music, contemporary dance, and short film projects has diversified his sound, and his releases have spread across the globe, reaching audiences through the sets of A-Trak, Laurent Garnier, Jori Hulkkonen, Sam Feldt, Honey Dijon, Maceo Plex, and Radio Slave, just to name a few. Since 2020, his artistic focus has shifted towards contemporary dance and sound design.

Josu views electronic music as a powerful recreational tool to nurture both the physical and spiritual sides of humanity, and its abstract nature is a constant source of inspiration. Melancholy and minimalism depict the mindscape of the Nordic artist and can be heard predominantly in his work. Josu is fascinated by contemporary tools such as generative sequencing and musical algorithmic systems. Researching and refining these new frontiers is an ongoing process.

Josu teaches Music Technology and Musical Creativity at Turku Conservatory, and acts as a principal at Varsinais-Suomen Kansanopisto.

"[Mämmi's] vision elucidates the album as an audio experiment where the end result is greater than its factors."
